THANK YOU: Leanne and baby Neve
MORE than 600 people from across the Wee County packed into Alloa town hall on Saturday night to raise funds for the daughter of fallen Alloa soldier Kevin Mulligan.

They gathered for a night of music and tributes to the 26-year-old, who tragically died in August last year, leaving behind pregnant fiancée Leanne Kelly.
She gave birth to a beautiful daughter Neve on November 20 and the emotional yet fun-packed evening raised a staggering £8,400 to help the family with the cost of bringing up the youngster.

Friend Brian Reid helped to organise proceedings along with Joyce Pellici and Berna Burney as some of the central region’s top entertainment acts played to an enthusiastic crowd.

Kind-hearted Clackmannan-shire businesses put their hands in their pockets to donate cash and gifts to the family, still devastated by their tragic loss. The huge event follows a football tournament in November which raised £500 for the family.

Co-organiser Brian said: “I used to go on the Celtic supporters’ buses with Kevin and I knew him through running Peppe’s football team. It took a few months to organise but it was worth it and I’m sure everybody had a good night.

“We had over 600 people both young and old in here from across the county who showed their support.”

First up were rock band Lobster who wowed the crowd before local act Goldrush hit the stage. Glasgow stars Late Night John produced an excellent set of acoustic folk before Bruce Springsteen tribute band The Rising rounded off the night.

Leanne (30) said: “Thank- you to everyone who came to the concert. I’m totally overwhelmed with the kindness we have been shown.

“Since Neve was born the amount of gifts, cards and donations she has received is unbelievable and I would like to thank you all. I’m sure Kevin would appreciate all the support and kindness we have received.”

Brian added: “It was lovely to see both families there on the night. The local businesses have been out of this world in donating cash and items.

“The Sony Centre donated a plasma TV, Anna’s Larder gave a hamper while there was cash from the likes of the Round Table, Alloa Bedroom Centre, Tom Mulraney, Alloa golf club, Aspect
heating Peppe’s Bar and M-Line International.

“There full list is too big to mention but their support was fantastic and everyone is very grateful for all their help. I’d also like to say a big thanks to the doormen who worked for free on the night and Clackmannanshire Council who let us  use the hall for no fee.”
