KILLER: Gavin Walls A VICIOUS Sauchie thug was jailed for life after being convicted of the brutal murder of William Strang. Eighteen-year-old Gavin Walls was found guilty by a majority verdict at the High Court in Aberdeen last week and will serve a minimum of fourteen and a half years behind bars.
Walls, who was seventeen at the time of the deadly assault, stabbed 20-year-old William Strang, who lived on Sauchie’s Main Street, to death around midnight on January 29 last year in the town’s Lochbrae area. The sickening attack stunned the local community who woke to news of the shocking crime as police and forensic teams arrived in force to comb the street for evidence that would eventually lead to the conviction of brutal Walls.
The victim’s bloodied baseball cap remained as a haunting reminder of the previous night’s horror.
Killer Walls, who lived in the town’s Beechwood area, appeared in private at Alloa sheriff court later that day charged with Strang’s murder and six bail offences.
The attack prompted a plea for calm from community constable George Hastie, who said: “I would like to stress this was an isolated incident but myself and my colleagues will continue to carry out high visibility mobile and foot patrols locally to provide reassurance in the meantime.”
Even now the murderer’s Bebo site still carries the harrowing slogan “Time is never wasted when your wasted all the time.” as a reminder of his disregard for life. One comment left on his site earlier this week said: “When you love someone you never really get over them. I mean really get over them.
“I start to develop feelings for other people but I know no-one will ever compare to you. That’s how I know I have to get on with my life and move on. Trying to forget someone I love is like trying to remember someone I have never even met. Seriously miss you like . . . I am always gona love you.”
Another says: “Awrite bud ken ye canny c this, but got ur back all the way xxxxxx.
Walls was a well-known thug and appeared in court just weeks before the murder, where he admitted terrorising a Sauchie family with a baseball bat and belt during a fight in the town’s Posthill.
Dangerous Walls also admitted engaging in a fight and possessing a pair of nunchuks.
At the time, Alloa sheriff David Mackie warned the teenager thug that his behaviour was displaying a disturbing trend.
Sheriff Mackie said: “You are accumulating a record and I live in hope you will realise there is a way of living that doesn’t involve this kind of behaviour.”
