![]() CRASH SITE: Lornshill Academy The bin lorry, which belongs to Clackmannanshire Council, had ploughed into the back of the new state-of-the-art building just before hundreds of youngsters were about to start school. It crashed straight through the building’s red brick wall and windows and lodged between two of the ground floor offices of the academy. An investigation is now under way to determine the reasons for the freak accident, which happened just after 8am on the road behind the school building, which leads on to the academy’s sports facilities. The driver was uninjured although badly shaken and the school was able to continue with classes as normal. Headteacher Daniel Murphy said: “Fortunately, the incident happened before the school day started on Friday, so none of the kids or our staff were affected by the accident. “The school was fully functioning and teaching went on as planned, despite having a lorry embedded in the building. “We are just glad no one was hurt and that the damage to the building is not extensive.” The lorry was removed from the building the same day. After engineers conducted an initial inspection of the crash site, it was determined the collision did not cause any serious structural damage to the school building. The gaping hole at the back of the building has now been covered up with black polythene sheeting and the council’s insurance company will conduct an investigation on the incident before repair work can start. Clackmannanshire Council’s director of services, Grahame Blair, said: “A council bin lorry collided with the rear of Lornshill Academy on Friday December 11 at around 8.18am. “While the driver was left shaken, thankfully no-one was physically harmed in the incident. “Repairs will be carried out by AMEY as soon as is possible.”
